Matt Rempe has quickly become one of the biggest villains currently in the NHL. After a series of fights and dirty hits in his first games with the league, he has added another massive hit to his resume in tonight's game. Yet for him, it was his reaction afterward that now has hockey fans at his throat.

Matt Rempe Waves After Getting Ejected For Injuring Opponent

In tonight's game between the Rangers and Devils, the rookie enforcer from New York made a massive elbow hit to New Jersey's Jonas Siegenthaler. As a result, he received a penalty and game misconduct.

However, his actions did not stop there. As he was being escorted off the ice, he waved at Devils defenseman Kurtis MacDermid. After not being able to fight him all night, MacDermid did not take kindly to the taunts and tried to go after him.

"MacDermid was FURIOUS after the hit but Rempe just waved as he left the ice 😅"

Players And Leadership Speak On Misconduct

Though MacDermid did not get back at Rempe after this stunt, he did comment on it, describing it as disrespectful.

"You don't do things like that when you're in your first year in league. I lost quite a bit of respect for him tonight.

The Rangers' current head coach Peter Laviolette had different things to say about the rookie NHLer's performance. Though he wished the best for the injured player, he admired Rempe's game.

"I thought he was playing a really strong game... I don't want to comment too much on it until I get to see it again."

While hockey fans are still divided in their opinion of Rempe, it will be interesting to see how other players in the league attempt to respond to this pattern of behavior. There may be a bigger future of villains in the NHL to come.
