The Penguins have been on a downward spiral lately.

Penguins Cold Streak Continues With Brutal 6-0 Loss

The Penguins most recent cold streak is a big reason for why the team decided to sell Jake Guentzel. They have lost five games in a row, including their most recent 6-0 blowout against the Washington Capitals.

The loss was so bad that is prompted one Penguins veteran to give a whole speech about the team's current situation in his post-game interview.

Malkin Apologizes To Penguins Fans After Loss

The timing of this cold streak could not be worse as fans are also dealing with the added stress of the team trading away Jake Guentzel. The loss was so bad, Malkin felt the need to apologize to the fans.

"I want to say sorry to fans. They pay money for tickets and we lost. It's not good, we need be better."

The hardened veteran went on to give a longer speech about the team's recent performances. It seemed to be somewhat of a rallying cry for his teammates as he still expressed hope in their ability to make the playoffs.

Evgeni Malkin: "We need to just play hard and play for fans. We all understand it's not a great night for us, and I want to say sorry to fans because they pay for tickets, they come to the rink and they see this game. It's not great... we need to play harder."

Evgeni Malkin: "We need to help each other and support each other. Hockey changes quick... maybe now, after trade deadline, guys do not feel pressure anymore and maybe a little bit more relaxed and play better. Who knows? We don't have a big chance, but we still believe we have a chance to make playoffs."
