New reports have surfaced confirming that a third team has made their way into the Chris Tanev trade that sent the star defenseman to the Dallas Stars.

Third Team Officially Involved in Tanev Trade

Since the trade had been announced an extra wrinkle has been found in the trade. According to reports the New Jersey Devils are getting in on the trade as well. The Devils will gain a 4th round pick for retaining salary on Tanev's contract.

#njdevils are involved in the #Flames and #TexasHockey deal, they are retaining money on Tanev to help process the deal.

NJD reserve list guy Cole Brady is part of the deal. They're getting back a 4th round pick.

An additional clause put in the trade has to do with the 3rd round draft pick sent from Dallas to Calgary. According to the clause on the pick Calgary only gets the draft pick if the Stars make the Stanley Cup finals.

Condition on the pick: Flames receive Dallas' 2026 third-round pick ONLY IF the Stars advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
