When the Boston Bruins placed Par Lindholm on waivers Sunday, it seemed odd as it was not necessary to do so as he was already on the Bruins' taxi squad. Now we know why this was done. Lindholm and the Bruins have mutually agreed to part ways and the 29-year-old forward has already signed a multi-year contract in his home country of Sweden.

According to Aftonbladet, Lindholm had a contract in place for multiple years with Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) before even completing his time on unconditional waivers. The team has since confirmed that Lindholm has signed on for the rest of this season and for four more years after that, meaning Lindholm's NHL career is effectively over.

Lindholm has played for Skellefteå AIK before, suiting up for four seasons from 2014 to 2018 before signing as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lindholm played 61 games for Toronto before finishing the 2018-19 season with the Winnipeg Jets. He then signed a two-year deal with the Bruins worth $850,000 per year, but had a tough time cracking the team's lineup. He played 40 games last season and dressed for just one game this season before the agreement to part ways.

In 105 regular season NHL games, Lindholm managed four goals and 19 points.
