Hockey players are definitely a superstitious bunch. Pre-game rituals run from having to wear certain socks to ensuring you're the last person off the ice to just about everything in between. A story about Corey Perry, now a member of the Montreal Canadiens, takes the rituals to a whole new disgusting level, though.

On Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada, the panel began discussing some of the more strange superstitions from players around the league. According to Kevin Bieksa, who played with Perry in Anaheim, whenever Perry hit a goal-scoring drought, he would place his stick in the garbage can of the dressing room and get teammates to not just throw garbage on it, but spit on it as well. This was apparently Perry's way of asking the hockey gods to let him get a greasy garbage goal.

Perry has scored 378 goals across his NHL career so it makes you wonder just how many times he performed this ritual. Also, you have to think this one is no longer allowed given the current COVID protocols across the NHL. But, hey, whatever works!
