Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos' suspicion of a false positive test appears to be true. The 31-year old was removed from the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list, 48 hours after being placed on it.

Stamkos was left out of Thursday night's game against the Florida Panthers with what was described as a lower-body injury.

He took to Twitter on Friday to thank his fans for reaching out, and to explain that it was likely a false positive test, which turned out to be the case.

"Thx to everyone who has reached out. At this time we suspect a false positive test. Hopefully that's the case, and I will be back on the ice in the next couple of days Crossed fingers. Until then I will continue to follow the NHL Covid list protocols." Stamkos said.

In 11 games this season, the Markham, Ontario native has 14 points (7 G, 7 A), 6 penalty minutes, and is a +5.
