The Edmonton Oilers announced on Saturday that forward Jesse Puljujarvi has been removed from the COVID-19 protocol list and the NHL has cleared him to resume team activities.

Puljujarvi was placed on the COVID-19 protocol list on Thursday afternoon, causing the Oilers' game against the Montreal Canadiens to be delayed by one hour from 7pm to 8pm.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet added that Puljujarvi returned to Edmonton on a charter flight and will be able to participate at practice on Sunday.

It's unclear as to why Puljujarvi was placed on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list, he could have been a close contact of someone who has tested positive, or he could have tested positive himself. If he had tested positive, it's likely that it was a false positive given the fact the NHL has cleared him to return to team activities.

Puljujarvi, 22, was drafted in the first round, fourth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He returned to Edmonton this season, signing a two-year contract worth $2.35 million in October. The Finnish forward was an RFA following the 2018-19 season and returned to his home country to play for Karpat in Liiga for the 2019-20 season.

In 15 games this season, Puljujarvi has tallied 5 points (3 G, 2 A), 6 penalty minutes, and is a -6.
