The Edmonton Oilers have placed veteran forward James Neal on waivers. Until 12 pm ET on Sunday, anyone who wants Neal on their team can have him without giving up anything in return. If he is not claimed, he'll move to the Oilers taxi squad.

Neal has played in nine games for the Oilers this season, recording two goals and an assist. Neal is on a contract paying him $5.75 million per season for this year and the next two. Given that price tag, the odds of any team picking him up from waivers are slim to none, but you never know.

Neal has 548 points (291G, 257A) over the course of 830 regular season games. However, his production has dropped off considerably the last couple of years. Neal is the only player placed on waivers Saturday across the league.
