It appeared to be a disaster when it was announced in December that Joseph Woll suffered a high ankle sprain leaving him out of action for the foreseeable future. Ilya Samsonov was playing some awful hockey out there leading him to be waived, and the Leafs weren't sure if Martin Jones can take the lead between the pipes.

Obviously, Jones played some exceptional hockey, leaving Leafs fans with no worries, and as of late Ilya Samsonov has finally found his game with a decent stretch out there. With Woll back, and playing for the Marlies this weekend on a conditioning stint, he saved 36 out of 37 shots in the Marlies 4-1 win. Insider Elliotte Friedman layed out the Leafs plans in net.

Friedman reveals Leafs plan in goal

Joseph Woll looks ready, Samsonov has his confidence back, and Jones has been too good to be waived or sent down, so what do the Leafs do in goal? Friedman said the following:
the Leafs will take the next day or two to determine what the plan is moving forward, whether that be to retain 3 goaltenders and work with a 3-goalie rotation for the next month and a half of if they'll simply waive a goaltender to make way for Woll's return.
Jones would likely get claimed on the waiver wire, and so will Samsonov as teams are always looking to add depth in goal, so it seems like the most likely scenerio will be for the Leafs to roll with 3 goalies until the end of the season and form some sort of Meritocracy.
