To summarize quickly, the official Garrett Rank made the following call:

"You're not gonna like it but the call on the ice was correct, no goal" 😭

Later, the former referee Tim Peel shared that he didn't find this amusing at all.

Here's what he said:

However, today, a fan pointed out that Peel isn't saying the same thing as when Wes McCauley did one of his infamous penalty call.

Back in 2022, Peel came out after a call by McCauley and said that he loved it.

NO ONE does it better than my buddy Wes. We are in the entertainment business and I love how he does it. Oh and btw he's a really good ref!!"

Both situations are extremly similar. However, Peel liked one and disliked the other.

Some fans pointed that out on X:

Do you like it when referees add a bit of personality to their calls?
