During an appearance on Tim & Sid which aired on Thursday, February 11th, "The Rated-R Superstar" Edge took some time to share some of his Leafs memorabilia with the two Canadian sports program hosts, which prompted Sid Seixeiro to draw a comparison to Dangle, calling him the "King of Leafs paraphernalia" during the segment, which prompted Edge to all but entirely dismiss Dangle's collection, claiming that it pales in comparison to his own.
"There's no competition, man, I'm leaving [Dangle] in the dust," said Copeland. "I'm sorry, Dangle, but you're dangling, by a thread," he continued, before bursting into laughter at his own purposely awful pun.
Though the video could not display Edge's collection on the wall behind him clearly, he listed off some of the prized items in his possession, which included several goalie helmets from the likes of Palmateer, Cujo and Potvin, but was highlighted by a framed limited edition photo of the 1967 Stanley Cup winning Maple Leafs team, number 67 of 1,967 in the collection, signed by 19 of the players from the team - along with a blue leather and gold championship wrestling belt, with the Maple Leafs crest displayed in the middle. Quite the impressive collection, to say the least.
With Dangle having caught the segment which featured Edge, he issued a response from his "blue room", praising Edge's very successful WWE career before blasting him for owning "one of the grainiest webcams" he had ever seen in his entire life, comparing it to "a bowl of All-Bran" and declaring himself as the biggest Maple Leafs fan in the world.
"I am the biggest Leafs fan in the entire world! I have been a bigger Leafs fan since you were linemates with Christian and Gangrel. No need to brood on it, it's just the truth!," referencing Edge's old wrestling stable, "The Brood".
I mean.. you just can't make this stuff up! It was a hilarious response to one of the funniest guys to ever cut a WWE promo in Edge.
But just when you thought the rivalry had passed, Edge dropped a video response of his own, directed at Dangle - this time, from the comfort of his own living room, surrounding by a few of his championship belts, including his Maple Leafs championship belt, with a copy of his book in his hand, and one of his 224 Edge action figures present to reclaim his throne as the world's biggest Leafs fan. He even offered to send Dangle an autographed 8x10 photo in a moment of pure hilarity, before donning his Bunny Larocque helmet to deliver a "Go Leafs go" as his sign-off.
So how did Dangle respond? Well, like any starstruck WWE fan, he took to Twitter to declare the interaction as the best moment of his life, begging Edge not to let it slip to his wife or son. Just a couple of good-humoured guys giving us some quality content to help distract us from everything that's going on the world. Thanks, Steve and thanks, Adam. It was a wonderful exchange, and I sincerely hope this #1 fan rivalry continues!
