While he and his teammates were able to escape with a 3-2 overtime win versus the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask almost made what would have been the blunder of the season.

With just a minute remaining in the third period, Rask headed to the bench for the Bruins to get an extra attacker on the ice. This would be standard procedure if his team was losing the game. The problem, however, was that the score was tied 2-2.

"I honestly thought we were down 2-1," Rask said postgame. "I wasn't panicking at all, I was more laughing, actually."

"It's an entertainment industry. Hopefully (the fans) got a good laugh out of it."

Thankfully, the Rangers were never able to get possession of the puck during the time Rask vacated the net, and he was able to get back in the crease before any damage was done. The game was won by the Bruins in overtime soon afterward on a goal by Brad Marchand, who poked some fun at his goalie postgame.

"He's going to catch some heat for that,» Marchand remarked. «He made a lot of big saves tonight, so he gets a pass."

Despite the gaffe, Rask truly was excellent, stopping 33 of 35 shots. The 33-year-old improved his record to 6-1-1 on the season and has a 2.31 goals against average along with a .906 save percentage thus far.
