At a press conference on Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that fans will be able to attend games and concerts as of Tuesday February 23rd.

Venues with a capacity of over 10,000 will be able to allow fans at a reduced 10% limit. People with tickets to sporting events and concerts will be required to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of their scheduled event.

Attendees must also wear a mask, socially distance from others, as well as have their temperature checked prior to entering the venue. In an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, fans will also be asked for their information for contact tracing purposes.

"This hits the balance of safe reopening," Cuomo said. "This is a difficult time on many, many levels. Personally it's very difficult, emotionally it's difficult, economically it's difficult. But we are finding the balance and we are going to be the better for it."

The Buffalo Sabres will be able to hold a little over 1,800 fans at the KeyBank Center, the New York Rangers will be allowed around 1,800 as well at Madison Square Garden. The New York Islanders will have a maximum capacity of just under 1,400 fans at Nassau Coliseum.

The Buffalo Sabres, the New York Islanders and New York Rangers all released statements on Wednesday expressing gratitude for Governor Cuomo's decision. The Rangers also announced that their first game with fans in attendance will be February 26th against the Boston Bruins.
