The Pittsburgh Penguins have some fantastic veteran talent, but with a lack of depth at the NHL, they're trying all avenues to replenish the talent on their roster.
Pittsburgh claim Matthew Phillips
On Friday, the team officially claimed Matthew Phillips, who was waived by the Washington Capitals yesterday after a somewhat disappointing 2023-24 campaign thus far.
The Calgary native put up two incredible seasons of 68 and 76 points in his last two AHL seasons, but his transition to the NHL hasn't been as smooth, as he has tallied just 1 goal and five points in the league with the Flames and Capitals.
Phillips is a much smaller player, coming in at just 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, but clearly has the talent to make an impact, so now we will see if the third team is the charm for the 25-year old.
