One of hockey's biggest leagues is promising to discipline an official following a confrontation with a coach during a game. The KHL says the referee acted inappropriately and must be punished.

League Promises to Punish Referee After inappropriate Behaviour

In a recent game between Amur Khabarovsk and Avangard Omsk, Avangard coach Mikhail Kravets, a very repsected person in the Russian hockey world, was intensely discussing something that happened on the ice with referee Denis Naumov. Naumov suddenly cuts the conversation short and skates away. According to reports, he twice yelled the Russian equivalent of "Shut your mouth, b--ch!" at Kravets before he was done.
"During the Amur-Avangard game, Avangard head coach Mikhail Kravets was speaking with the referee during a timeout. Main referee Denis Naumov I guess had enough and replied, "Shut your mouth, bi--ch!" 😮

Everyone was stunned.

That ref is now facing disciplinary action. #KHL"

"The Kontinental Hockey League represented by the Department of refereeing apologizes for the inappropriate behavior of the chief referee in the regular championship match of the KHL between Amur and Avangard.

This episode does not look good on the referee. We are all one hockey family, and we need to treat each other with respect. The referee will be subject to disciplinary sanctions." - KHL Head Referee Alexei Anisimov.

KHL to Punish Referee after Outburst at head Coach

No one has said what punishment will be dished out to Naumov. After the game had ended, Kravets, who played two games in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, told reporters that the referee is a former hockey student of his. He wondered if he had done something in the past that might have offended or angered him.
"I don't have an extra 300 thousand [rubles]. It's all on the referee's conscience. Unfortunately, this man is my pupil, he played on my team, I treated him well enough. Somewhere, apparently, I didn't let him play. He may still be upset with me."
