Ever since the the Cutter Gauthier trade between the Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks, one of the biggest pieces of speculation has been whether Gauthier's decision to ask for a trade had anything to do with playing under John Tortorella. If that is the case, there are other players who feel very differently.

Veteran of over 700 NHL Games Pledges Devotion to John Tortorella

Tortorella turned a lot of heads last night when he publicly went after a reporter during a news conference for starting a rumour that former Flyers Kevin Hayes had played a role in Gauthier's decision to request a trade out of Philadelphia. He didn't hold back.
"It pisses me off that you guys throw that s--t around and it affects someone's life. Kevin Hayes and I had a problem, we couldn't come to an agreement on how to play. That's a good man. That's a good man. And what you said is going to stay with him. That's what you guys don't understand. And you're going to sit there and say you have the right sources. I call bulls--t."

Former NHLer Says He's Run Through a Wall for John Tortorella

Tortorella's willingness to defend a player he admitted to having a disagreement with caught the attention of a former NHLer Jason Demers, who said he'd gladly play under the coach.
"If the @NHLFlyers need a D-man I would pay to come play for Tortorella 🥹🥹 loved what he did backing Hayes! I'd run through a wall for this guy #putmeincoach."
Reporter Jon Bailey said Tortorella's reaction is exactly why players want to play for him, despite what many might think.
"By the way, this whole thing with the Torts presser proves why players DO want to play for Torts, not the other way around. He just went nuclear to defend a player he publicly did not like on the ice. Torts CARES for ALL of his players. #LetsGoFlyers."
