The 9th overall pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the latest NHL draft is getting a ton of hype. He now finds himself the centrepiece of a trade that's getting a huge haul in return.

Top Prospect of the Red Wings Gets Traded

Today, the Brandon Wheat Kings announced they've traded 19-year-old Nate Danielson to the Portland Winterhawk. In return, the Winterhawks get a grocery list of players and draft picks.

"The Wheat Kings announced today they had traded captain Nate Danielson to the Portland Winterhawks. In exchange, the Wheat Kings receive 2005-born forward Nicholas Johnson, 2005-born defenseman Rhett Ravndahl, a first-round pick in 2025, a first-round pick in 2027, and a fifth-round pick in 2026."

Danielson was in his fourth season with the team, and was obviously a beloved player and teammate.

"It's honestly the hardest day of my career since being in this position. To have to move a player like Nate is very, very difficult. For us, we felt like it was an opportunity for us to continue to push, that's going to be a really important message to our guys that we feel we have the troops to be a playoff team and keep growing and make strides. At the same time, it's hard to move a player like Nate." - Brandon Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray

Beloved Draft Pick of the Detroit Red Wings FInds Himself on the Move

Danielson has 12 goals and 26 points in 26 games so far this season. He was also a member of Team Canada at the most recent World Junior Hockey Championships, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist in 5 games.
