Corey Perry was meant to be a key veteran for rookie Connor Bedard to rely on in 2023-24, but ultimately, his relationship with the Chicago Blackhawks fell apart quickly.

Corey Perry eligible to return to the NHL

With some drama behind the scenes, Perry was ultimately let go by Chicago in a shocking turn of events, with many believing it would end his 2023-24 NHL season.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman however, that's not the case, as he is now eligible to sign with a team for the remainder of the year following a meeting with Gary Bettman.
It's unclear exactly what happened to cause Perry's termination, with this being the only description of what happened.
he «engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his standard player's contract and the Blackhawks' internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.»

There's plenty of speculation, but for now he's in a good enough space for Gary Bettman to approve his return to the NHL, and now we wait and see which team will be interested in the veteran forward.
