A poor performing Winter Classic for the NHL
As we have seen with the recent trend, this was the lowest-rated Winter Classic in NHL history, marking the third time that has occurred since TNT hosted the event, and it's an alarming statistic for the NHL.
While neither team possess the star power of Toronto, Boston, New York or Chicago, the reigning Stanley Cup Champions were in the game, leading most to believe it could and should have been a very successful event.
The No. 1 overall pick proves to be a massive draw
Speaking of Chicago, it appears as though Connor Bedard will be quite the success story, as his debut on ESPN drew 1.43 million viewers, topping the Winter Classic's 1.11 million viewers.
While some may see that as a win for the NHL, it proves just how much their marketing needs to improve, and if they can find a way under Gary Bettman to improve, it could mean even bigger audiences for superstars of the future like Bedard.
