Now, the League's commissionner made a surprising announcement regarding the suspension.
Bettman Makes Surprising Announcement on Pinto's 41-Games Suspension
The NHL was widely criticized for that suspension. Considering all the partnerships with betting companies, one could've guessed that they wouldn't condemn bets from players, unless they bet on their own games.
It looks like Bettman may have changed his mind.
With 10 games left on his suspension, Pinto was allowed back at the Senators' arena.
The Senators interim head coach made the following statement:
"Jacques Martin - Shane Pinto is allowed back into the CTC and his gear is back in his locker. His return date is a few weeks from now."
Still a free agent, Pinto should sign a contract soon before joining the team. The fact that he trains in Ottawa entertains the idea that he will stay with the Senators.
However, don't expect to see him in an official game before the end of his suspension. Nothing forbids him to train with his team before he returns, which he seems to be taking advantage of.
Pinto should be eligible to return for a game on January 21st, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
