In breaking news this morning, Carson Briere has been dealt his punishment for the incident that saw him throw a wheelchair down a flight of stairs.

Briere Sentenced to 15 Months Probation for Wheelchair Incident

Carson Briere, son of Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere, was all over social media for pushing an empty wheelchair down a flight of stairs at a local pub during his time at Mercyhurst University.

Now, the Court has ruled that Briere will receive 15 months probation for the act, according to the New York Times.

"They will each receive 15 months of probation and their charges of second-degree misdemeanor criminal mischief will be dismissed and expunged upon successfully completing the program." - New York Times

Briere Issues Apology But Was Dismissed From Mercyhurst

Briere had previously issued a public apology and offered to pay for a new wheelchair that was broken in the incident. However, he was dismissed from Mercyhurst earlier this year before his court appearance.

The owner of the wheelchair, Sydney Benes, spoke at the court appearance, stating how embarrassing the whole situation was.

"Sydney Benes, who lost her legs in an automobile accident in 2021, talked in an Erie courtroom on Tuesday about the embarrassment she had to deal with in March when she was carried downstairs to use the bathroom at Sullivan's Pub & Eatery.

Then there was the humiliation of finding her wheelchair, which had been pushed from the top of the stairs, sitting damaged at the bottom of those stairs, she said." - Erie Times-News

Briere is set to continue his hockey career in Europe next season.
