The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming out of an embarrassing 9-3 loss in Buffalo. This terrible result can't be attributed to a single player, as almost the whole team played badly. However, Ilya Samsonov has been particularly awful.

Samsonov Opens Up on Mental State Amid Worst Slump of His Career

This season, Samsonov hasn't been competing at the level we saw last season in the playoffs.

In 14 starts, he has an abysmal 5-2-5 record, a 3.79 GAA, and a 0.871 SV%.

The 26-year-old goalie signed a one-year contract valued at 3.55M AAV this summer with salary arbitration.

Yesterday, he had a .737 SV%, stopping only 14 shots out of 19.

In his post-game media availability, Samsonov opened up about his slump.

Per Luke Fox:

"Ilya Samsonov says this is the worst stretch he's been in mentally in his career."

This isn't reassuring for Leafs' fans.

A Woll/Jones Duo: Good Enough for the Playoffs?

With Joseph Woll injured, we saw Martin Jones between the pipes for a few games, and he impressed a lot of people.

When Woll comes back, many Leafs fans hope to see Brad Treliving pull the trigger on Samsonov, ideally trading him to free up cap space.

But can Woll and Jones be enough for the playoffs?

While Treliving also has the option to get a top goalie on the trade market, our guess is that he'll focus on getting defensive talent.

If they can bolster their blue line, Woll and Jones could be enough for the playoffs.

Do you think the Maple Leafs will trade Ilya Samsonov?
