The Jack Eichel trade saga played out over two years ago now. With Jack Eichel now settled in Vegas he shared where he almost went near the end of the process instead of Vegas.

Eichel Shares Trade Process That Almost Landed Him In Canada

During a recent podcast appearance, Jack Eichel spoke more openly about the trade that sent him from Buffalo to Vegas.

During his stories about the trade, he mentioned several teams that were part of the process. Early in the discussions, he says Colorado, Minnesota, and Carolina were the favorites.

Eventually, Eichel says that the process came down to two teams. The Vegas Golden Knights and the Calgary Flames.

Eichel of course ended up in Vegas and the Flames made a massive trade of their own acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar.

Eichel Makes The Best Of His Opportunity After Blockbuster Trade

Jack Eichel has now been in Vegas for two and a half seasons. Last season he of course reached the top of the mountain winning the Stanley Cup. Things have worked out great in his new home.

For the Calgary Flames, they narrowly missed out and pivoted to acquiring Huberdeau and Weegar. Their trade has not worked out as well as they missed the playoffs last season and have struggled yet again this season.

This scenario shows just how brutal missing out on a trade can be to the team that does not land an elite player.
