With the Pittsburgh Penguins slipping further in the standings every week, calls are growing stronger for the team to do something before the season is lost. Pens GM and President Kyle Dubas has heard them.

Penguins GM Gives his Honest Thoughts on Firing Mike Sullivan

Dubas met with members of the media today where he was, of course, asked whether head coach Mike Sullivan's job might be hanging by a thread given Pittsburgh's 11-12-3 record. Dubas said he doesn't believe Sullivan is the issue.
"As soon as a team doesn't reach its potential, it seems that right away the attention shifts to coaching... What I would say to that is, with Sully, I had my impression of him coming in and my respect for him coming in - being with him every day and not only seeing his attention to detail on the systems, but also his attention to detail with the players and coaching them individually and personally, I think we're very fortunate to have Mike. And so, do I think that he's the right person for this job now and far into the future? I absolutely do."

Kyle Dubas Addresses Rumours that Mike Sullivan is Close to Losing his Job

While Dubas is publicly stating his support for Sullivan, it's hard to put too much stock into it. Many other GMs throughout the league's history have backed their coach in front of reporters, only to fire him a short time later. At the end of the day, if the team's record doesn't improve, something has to give. In the NHL, that something is usually the current coach's job.
