A new report has linked a star goaltender on a struggling team to a couple of Eastern Conference teams.

Star Goalie To Be Moved At The Deadline?

Today Elliotte Friedman spoke about a star goalie who has been on a struggling team that could be looking for a change of scenery. According to Friedman, several teams have been calling the Anaheim Ducks about the availability of John Gibson.
Elliotte talks about John Gibson and wonders if Carolina or New Jersey could be interested because of their current goalie situations. Says Carolina is prepared for the chance Frederik Andersen doesn't play again this year. #FlyTogether #CauseChaos #NJDevils #NHL #NHLHockey
As you can see Friedman mentions two different Eastern Conference teams as possible destinations for Gibson going forward. But who would be the better fit the Hurricanes or Devils?

Two Contending Teams Looking To Add A Goaltender

Both of the Metropolitan Division rivals mentioned in connection with Gibson could use better goaltending play.
The New Jersey Devils have struggled to find consistency in the net for a long time now. This season Akira Schmid was a goalie many were hoping could fill the role. Unfortunately between Schmid as well as Vitek Vanecek, an answer has not been found. Both have a goals-against average above 3. Schmid does sport a better save percentage but only a 0.902.
For the Hurricanes a big problem they have faced is a major injury. Incumbent starter Frederik Andersen went down with an injury that Friedman now says will keep him out for the season. Backup Antti Raanta has split the net with young goalie Pyotr Kochetkov in Andersen's absence. Both players are not suited for a starting role. Raanta fits better as a high-end backup goalie. Kochetkov has the potential to start someday but is still too early in his development.
Both of these teams desperately need better goaltending. Both would likely consider themselves Stanley Cup contenders at the moment. This means it will likely come down to who would be willing to give up that extra pick or prospect to land Gibson.
