It's hard not to feel at least a little bad for Johnathan Huberdeau. And it's clear what's going on this season is starting to take a toll.

Huberdeau Blames Himself for his Awful Season So Far

Despite the fact that the Calgary Flames won last night, Huberdeau was once again firmly planted on the bench by his coach. This time for the entire third period.
Asked about the situation today, Huberdeau said it's all on him.
"It wasn't easy, I'm not going to lie. There's no pointing fingers. You've got to look in the mirror, I gotta be a better player. I know I've got it in me, I still believe in myself. I just gotta show it on the ice."

Huberdeau Gets Blunt on his Performance this Season

Meanwhile, Flames coach Ryan Huska told reporters today that he benched Huberdeau because there were others on the team that he felt had found another gear, while Huberdeau did not.
I don't think anyone would have expected this from Huberdeau just 12 games into an eight-year contract that carries a cap hit of $10.5 million. Digging himself out of the hole he's made could prove to be impossible.
