20-Goal Scorer to Hit Free Agency Mid-Season: Ken Holland's Biggest Mistake as Oilers GM to Come to Nasty End Result
A contract stipulation coupled by a lack of early production may make Connor Brown's time in Edmonton extremely short-lived.
In the offseason, the 28-year-old forward signed a one-year deal with the Oilers, worth $775,000.
Brown has now played nine games for the Oilers this season but has yet to record a point and has a +/- of -9. He missed Monday's game with an undisclosed injury and is currently listed as day-to-day on the injury report.
Edmonton's hand is now forced however, because the contract that Brown signed will trigger a $3.25 million for next year.
Brown still shaking off rust from surgery and will likely be waived
Last season Brown played just four games for the Washington Capitals before suffering an ACL injury which required surgery and nixed the remainder of his season.
Prior to that, he played three seasons in Ottawa and four in Toronto, a team who could become a viable suitor for Brown, should the Oilers decide their best path is to release the player.
Brown has scored 90 goals and has 126 assists over 457 games in the NHL.
