The Oilers are currently in a free fall. No forwards can score consistently, no defenders can defend, and worst of all neither of the goalies can stop a beach ball, even if it was shot from the other end of the ice by a fan on the lowest setting.

Unfortunately for Edmonton, the big UFA signing by Ken Holland in the 2022 off season, Jack Campbell, has not lived up to his $5 million AAV contract at all.

A big Tuesday for the Edmonton Oilers and their goalies

Also an interesting turn of events landed on Tuesday morning.
The Oilers are waiving Jack Campbell in hopes that he can regain his confidence and play in the AHL. There is also the potential that Campbell will be staying in the AHL until the Oilers can find a way to move his contract, like the LA Kings did with Cal Peterson and the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Oilers will not get a lot of salary relief though as the team can only bury $1.15 million of Campbell's $5 million AAV.

Who may soon be an Edmonton Oiler goalie?

On Tuesday night a newsworthy tweet landed in hockey twitter(x)-land.
Apparently, the Oilers are interested in Jordan Binnington. The good news in this rumour is that the salary would almost work. Each goalie has three more years after this one left on their contracts, but Binnington has a $6 million cap hit and Campbell has a $5 million cap hit. The Blues would possibly have to retain, or there would need to be a couple other pieces working.
Binnington has struggled since signing the long-term deal in St. Louis, but he has not struggled as much as Campbell. This season the play of each has been polar opposites. Binnington has a 0/924 save percentage in seven games, while Campbell has a 0.873 save percentage in just five games.
