Shane Wright is right on the cusp of being NHL-ready this year and had a real shot at cracking the Kraken's roster. However, we now know where the 19-year-old will be playing this year after this Seattle announcement.

Wright Cut From Kraken Roster and Reassigned to Coachella Valley in the AHL

Shane Wright came into camp this season looking a lot more developed than his first training camp, and he made a statement on his potential as an NHLer. However, the young forward still needs time to develop his game, and it looks like he will be doing that with the Seattle Kraken's AHL affiliate, Coachella Valley.
#SEAKraken have sent down F Shane Wright to Coachella Valley (AHL).
Wright played in 8 games last year after being drafted in the 2022 entry draft 4th overall by the Kraken. He was able to record 1 goal and 1 assist in those 8 games.

Wright and the Kraken Taking Advantage of NHL and CHL Exemption

In a normal case, Wright would now be forced to go back to his junior team in the OHL after being cut from an NHL roster, as he is under 20 years old and hasn't played 4 full seasons in the OHL.
Combining his AHL conditioning stint starting in November, which also took him through the World Juniors, 1 more NHL game and back to the OHL:

Shane Wright has 21 goals in 27 games.
However, Wright and the Kraken were granted an exemption which allows Wright to play the year with Coachella Valley in the AHL. This was granted, somewhat controversially, because Wright is just 5 days short of the birthday cutoff, and was also 1 game shy of the cutoff for a "full season" under CHL rules last year, which would have given him 4 seasons.
