The 2020 NHL Draft will turn out to be one of the most consistent in recent NHL memory, but unfortunately for the Rangers, the 'sure thing' may turn out to be the exact opposite.

Wasted potential

When Alexis Lafrienere landed in New York, many believed the team had found their superstar of the future, but three years on and the young forward still appears to be finding his footing.

In 282 games with the Rangers, Lafreniere has managed just 91 points, and while the constant changing in lines certainly hasn't helped, it's fair to categorize him as a disappointment right now.

Done in the Big Apple?

According to a recent update however, things may be worse than initially thought, as a prominent Rangers reporter has now revealed just how bad Lafreniere has looked in camp.

For the most part Lafreniere has looked like an undrafted invitee to training camp on a tryout.

While the organization has managed to build a solid roster around Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox and Chris Kreider, Lafreniere's lack of development has hindered them greatly, and now, it wouldn't be a shock to anyone if the 21-year old was shipped out of the Big Apple soon.
