In a recent podcast, this NHL insider just revealed what he believes to be a major roadblock for Trevor Zegras' future with the Anaheim Ducks.

Zegras is Everything a Franchise Should Want in a Young Player

Trevor Zegras has quickly become the face of the Anaheim Ducks, and even one of the major names in all of the NHL. He recently went to the NHL All-Star game and has been featured on the cover of the EA Sports NHL video game.

These accolades haven't just been given to him, either. Zegras has earned this respect by posting over 60 points in both of his first two full seasons with the team.
Zegras' Contract is set to expire after this season, and the rumours out of Anaheim are that Duck's management and Zegras are not even close to the same page. We now might know why.

Strickland Thinks That Zegras' Future is Limited in Anaheim

According to Andy Strickland on the Cam & Strick Podcast, he thinks he knows why the Zegras contract talks aren't going as planned for the young superstar.
He's not Pat Verbeek's type of player. I don't know if he is in their long-term plans.

This is quite a shocking statement but would explain why Anaheim is stuck at the $3-4 million AAV mark where Zegras' comparables are making much, much more. The Ducks have already signed key pieces to their future like Mason McTavish, Troy Terry, and Leo Carlsson, so it is surprising that Verbeek wouldn't want to keep the core together.
