The current Tampa Bay Lightning group has experienced much success, and while many players have contributed to that success, it's hard to deny the impact that Steven Stamkos has had over that time.

A long-time success in Tampa

Stamkos joined the team when he was drafted No. 1 overall back in 2008, and it's safe to say that team couldn't be more satisfied with the contributions he's made to this team from that moment.
In over 1000 games with the team, Stamkos has continued his run as more than point per game player, leading Tampa Bay to three Stanley Cup Finals appearances with two wins, but now, that could all be coming to an end.

An unexpected shot

The Lightning have locked down some big money players in recent years, and while many expected Stamkos to be next to land an extension, that's no longer the case, as he has taken a shot at management over the lack of communication.
To be honest I've been disappointed in the lack of talk in that regard. So it was something that I expressed at the end of last year that I wanted to get something done before training camp.

Stamkos has revealed that he's still open to a return to the only NHL team he's known, and if the extension comes during the season, then that's okay, but at this point, it appears absolutely anything could happen.
I'm ready whenever so I guess that was something that that I didn't see see coming but it is what it is.

Like I stated at the end of last year, too. I would love to extend and play here and finish up my career here but that's out of my hands. I can't write a contract for myself.
