RUMOUR: Canadian Team Emerges in the Shane Pinto Sweepstakes
The Senators will have difficulty signing Shane Pinto and could opt to trade him if worse comes to worst.
The Pinto Predicament
The Ottawa Senators are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They currently sit just under $900k under the salary cap but they have yet to sign Shane Pinto, a young 20-goal scorer.
They could sign Pinto but doing so would mean they would have to move out another piece, like Mathieu Joseph, and that would likely cost assets to do.
They could also trade Pinto but teams know the situation and are lowballing the Senators on Pinto. So what do they do?
New Teams Linked To Pinto
Notorious insider Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com has provided some major insight into what is going on with the Shane Pinto situation.
It was already known that the Bruins were in on Pinto but the Islander and the Canucks are new.
The Canucks would be an interesting destination for Pinto. They currently have Elias Pettersson and JT Miller as their center options but Miller's skills are better used as a winger. Pinto would provide a much-needed defensive game for the Canucks.
The Islanders are an interesting option for Pinto as he plays the perfect style of game for them. He would likely be the perfect JG Pageau replacement if they decide to move them.
At the end of the day, the Senators will have a tough decision to make and if they see the right package, they could have to move on from Pinto.
