A KHL game has ended terribly with an embarrassing overtime loss after a coach made a more than questionable decision.

Kunlun Beats CSKA

Today, the Kunlun Red Star faced off against CSKA Moscow and the game was a tight battle.

CSKA started off controversially by having goaltender Ivan Fedotov in the net deciding that the IIHF's ruling did not mean anything to them as they continued to play him.

The game was quickly opened up with CSKA scoring early on but Kunlun evened the score with a goal from former NHLer Brandon Yip.

The game would then see two more goals and the two teams would head to overtime.

The Embarrasing Decision

CSKA's coach saw that his team was dominating regulation play so he decided to take a gamble and pulled his goalie, Fedotov, during overtime.

This, as expected, backfired terribly.

The NHL actually has a rule against this type of behavior which is quite interesting. The NHL says if a team pulls their goaltender during overtime and the opposing team scores a goal, then the team does not earn a loser point.

This is used to deter this tactic of one team dominating the entire overtime and resulting in more fluid play. However, teams could still use the tactic in a desperation moment, like being one point short of the playoffs and needing that point in the final game of the season.
