RUMOR: New Contender Emerges As A Destination For Logan Thompson
Logan Thompson is on the trade market and a new contender has emerged as a potential destination for the young netminder.
New Team Interested In Thompson
Insider Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com dropped some major news regarding the status of young Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson.
It was already known that the Sabres and Devils were interested in the young goaltender but the Carolina Hurricanes are a completely new team that has entered the mix.
Does Carolina Make Any Sense?
Carolina being interested fits their motto of always being in on the big names available for trade. However, the Hurricanes currently have three NHL-level goaltenders with Freddie Andersen, Antti Raanta, and Pyotr Kochetkov.
So why would they target Thompson? Well, Andresen and Raanta are 33 and 34 respectively which means their performance could fall off at any time. Both Andersen and Raanta are incredibly injury-prone, hence why they are rolling with three goaltenders.
Thompson would offer two things. One, he would be a long-term fit for Carolina as a 1A/1B goaltender to play with Kochetkov for the foreseeable future. Two, he would be a goaltender they could use as a more reliable rotation piece if they do decide to role three.
At the end of the day, Thompson will probably be getting moved at some point in the near future and wherever he goes to will want to have him as one of their top guys.
