RUMOR: Bad News Hits Juraj Slafkovsky Ahead Of The 2023-24 Season
The 2022 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky could be facing terrible news ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Slafkovsky's Poor Rookie Campaign
Last year the Montreal Canadiens shocked everybody by selecting Juraj Slafkovsky with the 1st overall pick in the 2022 draft. Shortly after being selected, Slafkovsky made his NHL debut but performed relatively poorly.
In 39 games, Slafkovsky registered only 10 points which is abysmal for any player, especially one with the weight of the 1st overall pick on his shoulders. Slafkovsky's season was cut short due to injury but now with the next season coming up shortly, we could watch Slafkovsky get demoted.
Salfkovsky Faces Demotion
Jonathan Bernier of Le Journal De Montreal had some interesting insights on what he believes will happen for Slafkovsky next season.
...However, a start to the season in Laval for Slafkovsky is not impossible... The top pick in the 2022 draft missed the entire second half of the season with a left knee injury.
There being no room for a young first-overall pick is a crazy thought. Montreal is not close to becoming contenders but Bernier believes that if Slafkovsky is not getting a fair amount of ice time, he should be sent to the AHL where he can develop confidence.
This strategy has worked in the past with young Canadiens as Cole Caufield went to the AHL, lit the league on fire, and came back with a vengeance with a newfound confidence.
