The Vancouver Canucks last few years haven't gone the way anyone would have liked, but with a new coach in town and a talented young roster, they could be a very fun team to watch in 2023-24.

Talented young group

This is a group no doubt built on young talent, with the Canucks hoping several players can step up in 2023-24, but one thing of note is their lack of captain, with very few obvious veteran options on the roster to fill that role.

However, former Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau has weighed in on their captaincy role, and his answer certainly won't surprise you.

A young superstar in the making

I think you guys know who my pick is already. I think there would be a couple of good guys, I think Petey (Elias Pettersson) if he stays there is going to be a great captain. - Bruce Boudreau

Unsurprisingly, Boudreau has thrown his support behind Elias Pettersson, who had a breakout season in 2022-23, tallying his first 100 point season in the NHL, and at 24-years of age, he's got a very bright future ahead of him.

However, as Boudreau alluded too, he is a pending UFA for the summer of 2024, but if the team can convince him to stay, using the captaincy as a bargaining chip, there's no doubt he's the best option for this team.
