Two teams in Canada are reportedly discussing a blockbuster trade.

Huge Trade Between Leafs and Flames?

Brad Treliving, the current Maple Leafs' GM and former Flames GM, might be looking to acquire some of his former players via trade.

As reported by Eklund, the anonymous insider:

"The Leafs are interested in Hanifin and Mangiapane. The Flames are keen on Knies, Nylander, Liljegren, and a few prospects... Those are the names I've heard. Chances are we aren't talking about all those names, but some combination of them."

Nylander in Calgary?

First, let's remove Matthew Knies from the scenario. The Leafs are unlikely to trade him unless they receive a significant offer in return. Knies is ready to join the NHL and make an impact on the ice. The Leafs have high expectations for him, and it's improbable he'll be traded.

If Toronto decides to make a trade, the likely candidates are Nylander, Liljegren, or some prospects.

Naturally, the player who would command the highest return is Nylander. If he becomes available, several teams would likely express interest. The question remains: Can the Flames present the best offer for him?

Even after acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri, the Flames could benefit from additional offensive power, and Nylander fits that mold. They would have to offer a significant package in return. A potential deal might involve the Flames sending Hanifin, while retaining a portion of his salary, and several high-quality draft picks in exchange for Nylander and Liljegren.

Do you think the Leafs and the Flames will make a trade?
