Shane Wright could be facing another major setback and it could become a bad omen for his career.

Wright's Draft Day Fall

During the 2022 draft, Shane Wright saw an unprecedented fall. Originally mocked to be the 1st overall pick, Wright wound up falling all the way to four after the Canadiens, Devils, and Coyotes all passed on him for other prospects.

Many expected Wright to make the NHL jump immediately last year but he struggled to do so and wound up playing in three different leagues: the NHL, AHL, and OHL.
Now entering his D+2 season, a big year awaits Wright but he could play in any of the three leagues he played in last season. Kraken GM Ron Francis would like to ensure there is a possibility he can play in the AHL long-term next year.

Unprecedented Grounds

It was recently revealed by NHL.com that GM Ron Francis will seek a bye which will allow Shane Wright to play in the AHL next year despite the CHL agreement. The CHL agreement basically states that no CHL-eligible player can play in the AHL unless on loan, which Wright did last year.
General manager Ron Francis said Seattle will seek a bye so Wright can play in the AHL to continue his development. The best solution, however, remains for Wright to shine in training camp and in the preseason games and to convince the Kraken to keep him in the NHL
Wright has not let this deter him however and has made it clear that he wants to play in the NHL next season and become a true difference-maker.
I have to earn my spot. I have to earn my ice time and prove to the coaches that I belong in the NHL.

He will now look to prove himself in training camp so he can earn a spot in a very deep Kraken roster.
