Fans Furious After Gary Bettman's Salary is Leaked
Gary Bettman has been the commissioner of the NHL for 30 years, and in that time he's made himself a not-so-small fortune.
His salary has been leaked - and fans are rightfully furious.
Bettman's Salary Causes Outrage
The NHL has some of the lowest paid players out of any professional sport. It should thus be expected that it should have the lowest salaried commissioner.
It has now been revealed, however, that Gary Bettman makes a whopping $9.6-Million per year. This lines him right up with NBA commissioner Adam Silver who makes $10-Million despite having a much more profitable league.
This also means that Gary Bettman makes more money than most NHL players, including Sidney Crosby, Leon Draisaitl, Alex Ovechkin, Cale Makar, and Adam Fox. In fact, he makes more than all but 17 NHLers!
Worth a Fortune
Per HockeyZonePlus, Bettman has accumulated over $166-million ($212-million inflation adjusted) as commissioner of the league - the LARGEST FORTUNE IN NHL HISTORY. While Connor McDavid is likely to surpass him one day, it is appalling that no NHLer has made more in their career than the commissioner.
With NHLers paying a 17% escrow on their salary to balance the books, couldn't Gary take a little paycut? He certainly isn't one to take one for the team...
