The Winnipeg Jets are seemingly headed towards some type of rebuild, which raises the question for many as to why veterans Mark Scheiefele and Connor Hellebuyck remain on the roster.

Veterans on the move

It's not yet been made clear why Scheifele hasn't been moved, but recently, a Winnipeg Jets writer Sean Reynolds revealed why the star goaltender remains a Jet.
I think Connor Hellebuyck would be a great fit with the New Jersey Devils but the New Jersey Devils want to go in for the cup this year so what they wanna do is they want to take their prospect pool, their big fat, one of the best in the NHL prospect pools, and say 'we will give you this and you give us this guy so we can be good right now and you can be good in the future' and the Winnipeg Jets do not want that. What they want is the New Jersey Devils' assets that make them really good right now... New Jersey is not gonna do it if they subtract three really good forwards and another defenseman from the process.

Unsurprisingly, he's drawing plenty of attention, but any team that has seemingly engaged in talks with the Jets are yet to agree with their trade demands at this point.

Hellebuyck a Devil

However, if the Devils, led by Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt and their young core can land a star goaltender, they may have a great chance at emerging in the Eastern Conference, despite hefty competition.
Last season, Hellebuyck went 37-25-2 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA, and at 30-years of age, he's still got plenty to give while having the experience needed for a deep playoff run, so whoever lands him this summer or at the trade deadline will immediately become much better for it.
