The NHL has had a significant problem with the misuse of long-term IR in recent years. Many teams have found ways to use the Longer Term IR to create extra cap space for themselves using long-term IR. Many in the NHL community believe the rule is being abused. This was rumored to have been done by the Stanley Cup champions this past year.

Seravalli Gives Injury Update

In his recent appearance on the Oilers Now show NHL insider Frank Seravalli spoke on the health of former second overall pick Nolan Patrick.

I think Nolan Patrick was maybe a bit healthier than the Vegas Golden Knights might have let on.

This report comes as a shock to most NHL fans who have followed Nolan Patrick's story. He was a top prospect selected by the Philadelphia Flyers who then suffered major concussion issues. The last update we had about Patrick was that his NHL career was likely over due to these repeated concussions.

Will Patrick Return To The NHL?

Nolan Patrick hasn't played an NHL game since the 2021-22 season. With the constant concussions, a return didn't seem likely. However, now with Seravalli's reports some have been thinking about where he could fit if he makes a return.

One user on X believes he would be a perfect fit with the Edmonton Oilers on a PTO.

With Nolan Patrick, the first consideration is obviously for his health and well-being in the long term. If he could come back though it would be great to see a former second overall pick resurrect his career and become a solid NHLer.
