Morgan Samuelsson passed away at 55 years old.
His former team, the ZSC Lions in the Swiss League, made the following statement:
"It is shocking news that hit Swiss ice hockey shortly before the start of the season. After a long period of suffering, Morgan Samuelsson lost his fight and his heart stopped beating on Sunday night. Samuelsson passed away at home. Far too early – the Swede, who has lived in Switzerland for many years, only turned 55."

"With Samuelsson's death, the world loses not only an ice hockey player with legendary status but also a cheerful and kind-hearted person who would give the shirt off his back for others. Morgan Samuelsson was always an entertaining, yet also deeply insightful conversation partner. When his health deteriorated in recent years, he bore it bravely and fought. Until his heart no longer wanted to beat on Sunday night."

"The ZSC Lions are planning a moment of silence for Morgan Samuelsson during a championship home game.

The entire organization of the ZSC Lions expresses its heartfelt condolences and wishes the relatives much strength!"

Samuelsson's Career

Samuelsson was drafted 123rd overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1986.
He never made it to the NHL, playing his whole career in Europe.
He became a legend when he scored the championship-winning goal in overtime.
However, he suffered from many injuries, which forced him to retire in 2002.
Then, he became coach for a decade before starting his hockey analyst career.
