Kyle Dubas may have only just left his post as the Toronto Maple Leafs' GM to start anew in Pittsburgh, but his old players still have some thoughts about him.

Morgan Rielly is one such player.

While interviewed on the podcast Jake's Takes, the eponymous host Jake - who's only 13(!) years old - asked the longtime Leafs blueliner how he felt about Dubas' departure from the organization, and whether or not he saw it coming. Here's what he had to say (jump to 1:54 in the YouTube clip):

«I wasn't expecting it, but I've gotten used to being surprised, I'll say. I think my first few years when players got traded - obviously teammates, but also friends - when they leave, you're taken aback. Then, you just get used to a new reality. I think that was the case with Kyle leaving.

We don't spend too much time really worrying about it or thinking about it now. We're just onward, and we're thinking about the next thing. Our group is outstanding. I spent time with [new GM] Brad [Treliving] and with Keefer [head coach Sheldon Keefe] and all the staff, and I think we're in a great spot. So, at this point, we're just trying to look forward, and we're pumped about where we're at and what's going on. I think everybody feels good now, which is really all that matters.»

Always Looking Forward, Never Backward

With the pressure on this group now more than ever following the team's first time in nearly two decades advancing past the first round this season, Rielly does indeed have plenty to look forward to. Dubas' successor, Brad Treliving, has made several moves this offseason to try pushing the Leafs over the top, so it's fair that it's only onwards and upwards mentally for the players involved.
