While not the main focus of the Karlsson blockbuster trade, Jeff Petry's inclusion in the deal has some added drama, as recent insiders have reported that he may not last in Montreal.

Petry's Moving, Again?

Recently David Pagnotta said in an interview that he heard Montreal was already contacting teams in order to flip Petry.

"When this all kind of came together, it looked like it was headed in this direction, word started to get out that this was going to happen, The Canadiens started making calls to other teams letting them know that they were going to get their hands on Jeff Petry, and he would be available.

Petry's Short-Lived Return

Petry is a solid defenceman, putting up 92 goals and 261 assists in 864 career games. However, he is getting older, into his 13th NHL season, which is likely the reason Montreal wants to move him. Montreal is in the middle of a rebuild, and will likely want to get the most future value for Petry that they can now.

Jeff Petry, traded back to MTL, is a veteran top four defenceman who likes to shoot from the point and has a solid finishing touch for a blueliner. Definitely dipped a bit last season but didn't completely fall off."

As reported by Pagnotta, the Canadiens are willing to retain some of Petry's salary in order to move him. Its likely they are looking for future picks, or a young prospect to add to their rebuild.
