The Edmonton Oilers have been in win-now mode for several seasons. This has included trades every single season to give Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl the best supporting cast possible. According to new rumors from Allan Mitchell, one of the Oilers' most polarizing players could be on the move if the team struggles early.

Edmonton fell short of winning the division and was forced to take a more difficult route in the first round of the postseason. It cost them in the series versus the Vegas Golden Knights.

Kane Shines In Edmonton

When Evander Kane was first acquired by the Edmonton Oilers in January of 2022 there was a ton of controversy. He was in the middle of multiple allegations of debts owed and marital problems. He also had just had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks for violating COVID-19 protocol. When Kane got to Edmonton he contributed right away and put Oilers fans at ease that the risk was worth the reward.

Will Evander's Injury Have Long-Term Effects?

Then early on in the 2022-23 season, Kane suffered a scary wrist injury. This would lead him to be out for several months. Upon his return, Kane struggled to contribute to the lineup. Allan Mitchell gave his opinion on Kane's status in Edmonton.

Kane is a good bet to outperform his production from a year ago (16 goals and 28 points in 41 games), but his injuries were serious and he's the only true power forward on the roster. If his mediocre numbers posted after his return from injury continue, Edmonton will have a dilemma.

If Kane were to be dealt he could fetch a solid return as he is one of the better power forwards in the league. His list of suitors could be small however considering the baggage that comes along with his off-ice life.
