Philadelphia Flyers President Of Hockey Operations Keith Jones announced the retirement of one of their top defensemen. Ryan Ellis is reportedly done with hockey due to injuries.

Ellis At His Best

When Ryan Ellis was at his peak he was one of the better two way defensemen in the NHL. His career high in points came in 2018-19 when he racked up 41 points for the Nashville Predators. Ellis spent most of his career with the Preds only playing four games for Philadelphia in 2021-22 before sustaining a back injury.

Injuries Reportedly Lead To Retirement

According to President of Hockey Ops Keith Jones Ellis' retirement is due to the back injury suffered in 2021.

#Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones told reporters today that D Ryan Ellis has a torn psoas muscle in his back, and has likely played his last NHL game.

Jones when asked about a surgical option for Ellis:

"I think that he's exhausting everything that he can in order to play, like we all do. You never want to have the void of not doing something that you'd love to do. He did it very effectively when he played so it's got to be really difficult."

If this is the end for Ellis hockey fans were robbed of several more years of watching a fun defenseman do his thing in the NHL.
