With now former-Bruins Captain and Franchise Icon Patrice Bergeron retired, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Boston, longtime teammate David Krejci appears to potentially be done as well, according to new reporting from Boston Hockey Now's Jimmy Murphy.
Although he may be done in the NHL, Murphy also says that while Krejci's playing days with the Bruins may be over, it's possible we may not see the last of Krejci in professional Hockey, as Krejci could still rep Czechia nationally in international events, including the 2024 IIHF World Championship.
Murphy's source says that if Krejci is done in the NHL, his only option for professional play is internationally for the Czech National Team.
Krejci, 37, had left the Bruins, and the NHL, when he joined Olomouc of the Czech Extraliga, seemingly closing the door on his NHL career, before surprisingly returning to the Bruins a year later, having a 56 Point season in 70 Games for Boston, his most in the NHL since 2018-19.
Krejci, currently a free agent, would be a favorite for the Bruins captain vacancy if he was to re-sign in Boston, although it looks less likely so, if Murphy's report is any indication of Krejci's future.
According to Murphy, returning to Olomouc is not an option, dismissing the possibility of his return, and likely in the Czech league as well, dismissing rumors of a potential return.
Krejci has played 16 NHL seasons, all with the Boston Bruins. Krejci suited up in 1032 Games for the Bruins, 5th all time in Bruins history, with 786 Points. Krejci was also a member of the Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup winning team, leading all NHLers in Points with 23.
