"Radek has developed into an extremely detailed player and offers our team a mix of size, speed and physicality." "He plays big minutes on both special team units for us, while often times playing against the opposing team's best players at even strength. We're thrilled to have him in place for the next five seasons as he is a great teammate and a big part of the Dallas Stars culture." general manager Jim Nill said regarding the signing.
Faksa, 26, was drafted in the first round, 13th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2012 NHL entry draft. In 351 regular season games, he has 128 points (60 G, 68 A), 215 penalty minutes, and is a +15. In 45 career playoff games, Faksa has put up 14 points (6 G, 8 A), 12 penalty minutes, and is a -2.
Internationally, Faksa has represented the Czech Republic on numerous occasions, most recently at the 2019 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championships. In 7 games, he had 4 points (1 G, 3 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a -1 as the Czech Republic finished fourth after losing to Russia in the bronze medal game.
The Stars now have roughly $6.66 million available in cap space for the 2020-21 season, and still have to sign restricted free agent forwards Roope Hintz and Denis Gurianov.
