Defenceman Jon Merrill has found a new home, signing a one-year deal worth $925,000 with the Detroit Red Wings.

Merrill, 28, has spent the last three seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights. This past season, he appeared in 49 games and posted two goals and seven points. While he won't be a player that does anything memorable in Detroit, he is a solid fill in piece for a rebuilding Red Wings team and allows them to not rush some of their defensive prospects.

Prior to playing with the Golden Knights, Merrill spent four seasons with the New Jersey Devils, who he was taken 38th overall by in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. To this point in his career, he has played 356 regular season games, posting 12 goals and 61 points. Additionally, he has appeared in 16 playoff games, chipping in with one assist.
